Roy Mottram

Roy Mottram was born on 28th March 1917 and joined the RAF on a short service commission in August 1939 and, with his training completed, joined 92 Squadron at Croydon on 26th April 1940.

On 15th September he claimed a He111 destroyed and a Do17 damaged. Three days later he crashed at Hollingbourne after a combat with Me109s. His Spitfire burned out. Mottram was admitted to Orpington Hospital with slight burns.

On 20th October he shared a He111 and on the 26th probably destroyed a Me109.

Mottram survived the Battle of Britain but was killed on 31st August 1941 as a Flight Lieutenant with 54 Squadron. He was shot down in Spitfire Vb W3712 escorting Blenheims on Circus 91 to Lille.

He is buried in Merville Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
